First consultation

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring any referral letter from your doctor, as well as a list of your current medications and allergies.

If you have had previous x-rays or have operative reports from previous surgery then please bring them as well.

What can I expect during my appointment?

Mr Lee will take a full history of your hip or knee problem and how it is affecting your lifestyle and activities. This provides an indication as to the demands you put on your body and your level of function.

A thorough clinical examination will then be performed; this will help refine the diagnosis.  Often an X-ray is required and this can be done at the same visit. All this may be enough to confirm the diagnosis in which case, Mr Lee will explain the diagnosis to you and recommend a course of treatment.

If necessary, further investigations, such as blood tests or imaging such as a magnetic resonance scan (MRI) may be needed. If so, these will need to be performed on a separate occasion. A follow-up appointment with Mr Lee will be made, once these tests are completed, to review the results with you.

Once a diagnosis has been made, treatment will mostly be non-surgical in the first instance. If surgery is an option then the benefits and risks will be discussed with you, Mr Lee will answer any questions or concerns you have, prior to any definitive decision to undergo surgery.
