Snapping hip

A snapping or clicking hip is a symptom that requires further investigation. It can be due to a number of conditions, but present is much the same way with a snapping sensation or a”clicking” sound, in the hip when you move it in certain directions. The condition can be quite painful.

Causes can be divided into those that occur outside or inside the hip joint. Outside the hip joint, tendons can flick over the hip joint or boney prominences, causing a snapping sensation or clicking as they catch and then release. Tears to the cartilage or loose pieces of cartilage can lead to similar symptoms as they can catch as you move your hip.

Whatever the cause, you should consider a medical review to confirm the diagnosis so you can get the correct treatment.
